Cool Beauty Image Wax Rollers images

Some cool beauty image wax rollers images:

Zambian fancy wax c. 1970
beauty image wax rollers

This is a Zambian fancy wax (single sided) roller print in four colors, with the distinctive red and orange (referenceing copper) that so often appears in Zambian national iconography. There is no selvege mark, but there is a distinct fake crinkle pattern applied at the edges, referencing a West African style wax print pagne.

Stars and clover alternate with four diamond framed vingettes of Zambian national pride. A copper mine represents the engine of Zambian industry in the dacades after independence. There is an image of Victoria falls, referencing both Zambia’s natural beauty and it’s other great export earner, tourism.

We can begin to date the piece from the other two vingettes. First, the Kariba Dam. While this huge hyroelectric project on the Zambezi wasn’t fully completed until 1977, the cement barrier was finished in 1959. That — along with the filled water level, are all we see here, simply dating this after 1959. But since Zambia dates from 1962-64, this doesn’t date the image.

The second image which might date this piece is the Zambian National Assembly building in Lusaka. While it looks very much like this today, there are now large side buildings and plantings. The Building was opened 2 March 1967, but images celebrating it’s opening do not show the footpath, barrier, and street lights here seen in front of the building. Given these two restrictions, I would say this cloth was printed between 1968 and 1974.

Bedrock City, Arizona. Display inside the beauty salon.

Located on a broad, flat, desolate plain to the south of the Grand Canyon, Bedrock City was built in 1972 (with a sister version near Mount Rushmore), as a combination kitschy tourist stop and campground. And aside from the garish, brightly-colored touch-up paint, the theme park is showing all of its thirty-plus years of the ravages of the harsh Arizona weather. A couple dozen squat, sturdy, shaped concrete buildings forming the town of Bedrock, with assorted kiddie rides, like a dinosaur slide and go-kart track. An interesting example of tourist-Americana of a bygone era, and equally amazing that it is still puttering along after all these years. For more information, see the Roadside America entry on Bedrock City. An absolute must-see if you’re the kind of person to keep an eye out for the next Stuckey’s on the side of the highway, or always on the lookout for the occasional Muffler Man.

The Outfit – Beauty Of The Week

Video Rating: 5 / 5

What happens if a jazz trumpeter (Thomas Burhorn) and hip hop producer (Michael Paetz aka Der Algorhythmiker) come together to make an album – jazzy trip hop with an eye for details, the warm sound of real instruments and the nostalgic crackle of long forgotten samples. The idea to fuse jazz with different styles isn’t new, yet The Burhorn create an independent, contemporary sound which convinces through its’ authenticity. Jazz listeners who want to hear strong bass drum and hip hop fans, who can differ a bass clarinet from a hookah will be more than satisfied. The strong personalities of the 20 participating musicians from Hamburg and Berlin (Germany) have enough room on the album “Beauty of the Beast” in order to unfold themselves. One especially feels this during the vocals of Y’Akoto, Valeska Steiner (Boy), Phil Fill und Milka Doo, which could not be more different from each other than day and night. However, similar to a leitmotif, the partial traditional and experimental sounds of the trumpet bound their way through the unconventional and pop-like arrangements. Through the interaction of the bass clarinet, played by the Jazzanova saxophonist Sebastian Borkowski, a complete new soundscape is created. The producers’ eagerness to experiment knows no boundaries. In the studio, instruments are often alienated, so that the one can hardly recognize them again, yet samples are also used in manner that gives one the impression that they are being played live.
